Côtes du Rhône

Côtes du Rhône

Radcliffe's Côtes du Rhône 2009

Style: Medium-bodied, fruity red

Celebrity match: Think Harrison Ford. A real crowd pleader with long-standing consistent career success but who avoids the glitz and glamour that may turn the heads of his peers.

The southern Rhône wine region runs from the beautiful town of Avignon in the South to Montelimar and flanks the river Rhône on its way to the sea. The region is epitomised by its people; warm and welcoming and its scenery; rugged and rocky.

The summers are baking hot and the vineyards are cooled by the annual winds called the 'Mistral' which whip down from the North and cool the grapes down. This Côtes du Rhône is one of the many wines from the Rhone and a favourite for many people. It is a laid back, easy drinking red, smooth and fruity with just a hint of spice. This is a great wine for when you have company, guaranteed to please your guests and to go with most dishes.

Try Côtes du Rhône with something Mediterranean like grilled meats, roasted peppers and an oil drenched salad and you'll be transported to sunnier climes!

Alternatively and perhaps more appropriate for our UK climate, try it with wholesome rustic foods such as Sunday roast, stews, sausages & mash, steak & kidney pie, chilli con carne and shepherd’s pie. For vegetarians, enjoy Côtes du Rhône with ratatouille, lentil and bean-based dishes, roasted peppers or penne pasta with aubergine and red wine sauce.

Grapes: Grenache / Syrah / Mourvedre
Nose: Medium intensity aromas of red and dark fruits such as blackberries, strawberries and redcurrants with a hint of spice.
Palate: Dry, light to medium-bodied with medium intensity flavours of blackberry, strawberry and a hint of peppery spice.
Alcohol: 14%
Region: Southern France

Côtes du Rhône origins and winery

Southern France

To source and blend Côtes du Rhône, we chose to work with a highly skilled producer situated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, west of the beautiful city of Avignon. The summers in this region are renowned for being baking hot and the vineyards from which our wine comes, are cooled by the annual winds called the 'Mistral' which whip down from the North, cooling down the grapes.
