Radcliffe's Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2008
Style: Full-bodied red
Celebrity match: Think Sean Connery. Strong, robust. One of the world’s most iconic celebrities. An unusually complex character with depth. Renowned as one of the all time greats. Quietly confident, doesn’t seek out the bright lights of showbiz but guaranteed to impress at any special occasion.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the world's most iconic wines. The name means "New Castle of the Pope" and refers to the time that the Pope moved his residence to Avignon on the banks of the Rhône, but the real draw of the area is its amazing wine, steeped in mystery.
Part of the draw of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the fact that winemakers use up to 14 different types of grape in the wine - although most favour Grenache - so no two producers' wines are ever the same. The region is also renowned for its unique “pudding stones”, big round stones which soak up the sun during the day and release warmth at night, ripening the grapes to perfection.
Whatever it is that holds the magic, we love Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Perfect for when you want to impress, it's rich, full-bodied and spicy; a wine for dinner parties, steaks and all things grown up and sophisticated.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a big wine for big foods! Enjoy it with feathered game such as turkey, guinea fowl and pheasant or with meaty oxtail, venison or lamb shanks. Vegetarians match it with caramelised onion, lentil dishes or cooked tomato and aubergine bake.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape origins and winery
Rhone, France
We work with a highly skilled producer situated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, west of the beautiful city of Avignon to source and blend our Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an AOC (Appellation d’Origine Controlee) which means that it must originate from vineyards located within the area of the AOC. In the case of Châteauneuf-du-Pape this area is less than 10 square miles.
